Marine Radar Systems

I Radar can be connected to an Ethernet network for a variety of user requirements. Each of X- and S-band radar can be interswitched without using extra equipment.

The 100 Base-TX Ethernet is utilized to network up to four sets of FAR-21x7/28x7 series radar with ECDIS FEA-2107/2807. This Ethernet data link gives high-speed and stable navigational data sharing amongst the equipment networked within the system. This network capability gives options to choose from a single station system configuration to complete Integrated Navigation System (INS).

The FAR-21x7/28x7 series radar delivers full TT functionality and can plot up to 100 targets. In addition, this radar series is displaying up to 1,000 targets received from the AIS transponder system. Detailed information about the targets can be shown in data cells on right hand side of the screen. TT/AIS information Scheme gives the operator full control over dense traffic. The type of AIS Symbol shows if it is a sleeping target, a normal target, a selected target, a dangerous target or a lost target.

Automatic Acquisition Zones
Two automatic acquisition zones can be set in a sector or in any form. These zone act as suppression zones, avoiding unnecessary overloading to the processor and clutter by disabling automatic acquisition and tracking outside them. Targets in an automatic acquisition zone are shown with an inverse triangle. The operator can manually acquire important targets without restriction, an essential aid and source of information on assessing the situation. Guard Zones and Anchor Watch Zone Guard Zones generate visual and audible alarms when targets entered the operator-set zones. One of the Guard Zones can be used as an anchor watch to alert the operator when own ship or targets drift away from the set zone.

CPA Alarm
The target tracking symbol changes to a triangle when its predicted course violates the operator-set CPA/TCPA so that the operator may be notified of the approaching targets to the own ship for collision avoidance. The operator can readily change the vector lengths to evaluate the target movement trend

Target trail feature generates a monotone or gradual shading afterglow on all objects on the display in order to help clarify traffic situation. Echo trails can be displayed in either true or relative motion (only true trail on TM). Relative trails show relative movements between targets and own ship. True motion trails require a gyrocompass signal and own ship speed input to cancel own ship's movement and present true target movements in accordance with their over-the-ground speeds and courses.

A radar map is a combination of lines and marks whereby the operators can define and input the navigation area and route planning/monitoring data. The radar map can include up to 20,000 points for lines and marks. The map data can be saved to facilitate repeated use on a regular navigation area. Planned routes created on ECDIS can be transferred onto a radar display when networked with ECDIS.

Electronic Chart Display and Information System

Displays official Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) S-57 Edition, ARCS charts and C-MAP CM 93 Edition 3. The ECDIS can overlay a radar image, ARPA and AIS data with the chart, when conducting, route planning and route monitoring.

ECDIS mode can be selected from the MFD operating mode selector at the Status bar. In ECDIS mode, the operators can generate and edit route plans. Also, ship's behavior can be monitored in relations to the planned route. The detailed parameters set for each waypoint within the route can be viewed in the route information window.

Radar map

A radar map is a layer consisting of marks and lines that can be produced and overlaid onto the radar display. It is intended for indicating safety-related areas and objects. 10 radar maps can be made and each map can have a total of 4,000 lines and symbols. The map data can be saved to facilitate repeated use on a routine navigation area. The user can create a radar map on-real time while using the radar for navigation or at leisure time at anchor or while the radar is not being used.

Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System

BNWAS Overview

The purpose of BNWAS (Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System) is to monitor bridge activity and detect operator disability which could lead to marine accidents. BNWAS monitors the watch officer's presence through watch safety system functions.

A watch officer is required to press the button on a Timer Reset Panel or to operate navigation equipment (e.g. ECDIS, Radar, etc.) at certain intervals. When the officer fails to press the button within pre-set intervals, visual and audible alarms will be generated in the wheelhouse. If the officer doesn't respond to the alarm, the system transfers the alarm to the Cabin Panels installed in other sections of the vessel in order to inform backup officers of the watch officer's incapacity. Timer reset function and Visual indication

The timer reset may be facilitated by one of following means: Pressing the reset button on the Main Panel/Timer Reset Panel Provoking the motion sensor Initiate operation of various navigation equipment It is important to keep in mind when planning a BNWAS installation that the external devises, which can act as reset devises, need to be located in position where proper lookout can be done by the watch officer. For the motion sensor, it is critical to locate it in such a way that it cannot be activated by the ships movements. Thus, any curtains present on the bridge deck should not come in the way of the sensor.

For first line of alert, in accordance with IMO Res. MSC.128(75), sufficient number of visual indications (flashing lights) are to be installed and connected. The visual indications should be visible from all operational positions within the bridge where the OOW (Officer of the Watch) may be stationed to perform his duties. These positions are made up by, but not limited to, Conning work station, Navigation support work station, steering work station and 2 x docking work stations. Operational modes

BNWAS should incorporate the following 3 operational modes:
1. Automatic: The BNWAS is automatically activated when the vessel is navigating by means of heading or track control system (autopilot/trackpilot), and inhibited as the heading/track control system is deactivated.
2. Manual ON: The BNWAS is always in operation
3. Manual OFF: The BNWAS is turned off completely

Automatic Identification System

The AIS enhances the safety and efficiency in navigation by automatically exchanging navigational status and other safety-related information within VHF coverage.

The Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponder FA-150 is designed to improve navigation safety by observing other AIS equipped ships. It can provide you with a solution for open sea cruise and inland navigation. The FA-150 can be interfaced with radar, ECDIS and ECS (Electronic Chart System), allowing AIS information to be displayed on them. Overlaying the AIS targets on the display enables vessel operators to distinguish the ships from other targets, such as islets. The FA-150 complies with relevant international regulations and standards (e.g., IMO, ITU-R, IEC) as well as international class requirements and Inland AIS requirements. For inland use, the FA-150 has the Blue Sign port. Blue Sign status information helps you recognize the approaching vessels to your area.

VHF radiotelephone designed to comply with the GMDSS carriage requirements. All the necessary facilities such as a Class A DSC modem and a CH 70 watch receiver are included in the transceiver unit.

The Furuno FM8900S is a Semi-duplex 25-Watt VHF Radiotelephone with a built-in Class-A DSC and CH70 watch Receiver. It features an easy-to-read, high-contrast 4.3" bright color LCD, enhanced noise reduction and speaker for superb voice quality, and quick-access CH16 key. Channel selection is simplified with the inclusion of both a rotary control and direct keypad input. Automatic entry of own ship position and time is accomplished through interfaced GPS receiver. The FM8900S can also connect to an office or home via an existing PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). The FM8900S scans all channels in the selected region as well as watches CH16 in alternate shifts.In the menu, all tasks are assigned numbers, and the operator can access each of the menu items either by turning and pressing PUSH TO ENTER knob or simply pressing the corresponding numbers on the numeric keypad for simplified operation. The FM8900S features a Replay function that records the latest 120 seconds of incoming communication on the currently set channel. By simply pressing the "REPLAY" button on the numeric keypad, the last-received message will be played back on the spot. The FM8900S fully meets GMDSS carriage requirements for SOLAS ships, as well as new ITU recommendation on digital selective calling system for use in the Maritime Mobile Service, ITU-R M.493-13. ATIS signal transmission is available for inland waterways.

FURUNO NX-700 is a dual-channel NAVTEX receiver for SOLAS ships complying with the new NAVTEX performance standard MSC.148(77) which is implemented on and after 1 July 2005. The NX-700 can receives two channels simultaneously. One is set for 518 kHz to receive international NAVTEX messages and another is selectable from 490 or 4209.5 kHz for domestic or local NAVTEX messages. These messages include a variety of safety information such as Navigational Warnings, Meteorological Warnings, Search and Rescue (SAR) information and other information for ships sailing within the reach of each service station's coverage. The broadcast station can be selected automatically according to own ship position when the NX-700 is connected with a GPS navigator. Every incoming message is stored in non-volatile memory and is displayed on a clear 5" silver bright LCD. Three different font sizes are available and can be selected from the menu. The NX-700 has a low profile, stylish display, receiver and antenna units. An external Serial (RS-232) printer can easily be connected for message printing. Another model, the NX700P, is also available which incorporates a built-in printer. The compact, umbrella-type H-field antenna requires no grounding. In addition, the antenna incorporates a high-performance preamp within the compact body, which gives reliable and uninterrupted reception without an extra whip antenna.

The FAX408 provides weather charts and satellite images in nine gray levels on 8" thermal paper. All known facsimile channels in the 2-25 MHz band are pre-programmed, and an additional 164 user-programmable channels are available. A gyrocompass detects the direction of true north by means of a fast-spinning rotor, which is suspended with no friction and is influenced by gravity and rotation of the Earth. A gyrocompass consequently indicates a ship's heading. The ship's heading is transmitted to repeater compasses and other ship's equipment after the signal format is converted to serial data or to stepper or analog signals depending on what type of format the equipment requires.
